Brookings will be the new host city for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field National Championships, to be held on Feb. 27 – March 2, 2019, and March 4-7, 2020, at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
The announcement was made Monday by the Brookings Convention & Visitors Bureau, in partnership with Dakota State University and South Dakota State University.
“We are thrilled for the opportunity to host this event, and we know the SJAC and the Brookings community will provide an outstanding experience for all these athletes,” said Jennifer Johnson, executive director of the Brookings Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Brookings will become the second city west of Missouri to host the national championship in its 53-year history of the sport. More than 1,100 student-athletes are expected to compete in the National Indoor Track & Field Championship at Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex, bringing an estimated 3,000 visitors and fans.
“This is an event we are really excited to host on campus in the SJAC. I really look forward to the continued partnership with DSU and the Brookings CVB in planning this event and ensuring its success,” said Jeff Drietz, facilities and operations manager for SDSU Athletics.
“We greatly appreciate DSU and SDSU’s collaborative approach and know this will be a win-win all around,” Johnson said.
