- $2,500 in prize money to be awarded
The twelfth annual Brookings Area Idea Competition is now open and taking entries from inventors, makers, innovators, entrepreneurs and anyone with a good idea, with the chance of winning a total of $2,500 in cash prizes.
The 2019 contest, hosted by Brookings Economic Development Corporation (BEDC), encourages community members, SDSU students and high school students to participate by submitting a one-page description including product or business name, description, the problem the product solves, market description and stage of development. Finalists will be asked to give a five-minute pitch of their idea to a panel of judges.
“The Idea Competition is one of our most popular programs, with over 40 people participating last year,” said Jennifer Quail, BEDC Director of Entrepreneur Support. “In addition to having minimal requirements, this contest provides people with the opportunity to take their product or business ideas to the next level of development.”
Ideas can be submitted online at startupbrookings.com/idea, sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed to BEDC, 2301 Research Park Way, Suite 113, Brookings. Entries will be placed in either the General Business or Science/Technology categories, and a total of $2,500 in prize money will be awarded with receipt of money subject to winners reaching business milestones.
The deadline for idea submissions is Thursday, February 21st. Finalists will pitch their ideas on Thursday, Feb. 28th, and winners will be announced at an open house networking event that evening, from 5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. at the Brookings Innovation Center, Research Park at SDSU.
“Brookings is a very creative and innovative community,” said Quail. “We are looking forward to seeing this creativity on display through this year’s Idea Competition.” Questions about the contest may be directed to Quail at email@example.com or 605-697-8103.
