Website monitors changes in the local economy

Brookings residents and businesses can now track how the coronavirus pandemic is affecting the region through a new resource unveiled today, located at

The dashboard, created by Brookings Economic Development Corporation (BEDC), tracks important economic indicators such as employment, construction activity, consumer behavior and overall sales revenue. The site also provides information about local prevention efforts and community resources related to COVID-19.

“This tool will be a valuable resource as the Brookings community deals with both the short-term and long-term implications of the coronavirus,” said Kristi Larsen, BEDC’s Marketing Director. “Observing and analyzing key data points and comparing historical statistics will provide valuable insight related to our current economic health and well-being.”

In addition to monitoring the impact of COVID-19, BEDC is using economic data to plan for a range of future scenarios that will assist in the development of potential response strategies. The organization is also working closely with community partners and local businesses to address immediate needs, according to Larsen.

“As we navigate through this pandemic outbreak and the long-term recovery efforts, it is imperative that the community works together to maximize our resilience,” she said. “We are so thankful for the strong collaboration and partnerships that exist within the Brookings region.”
