$2,500 in prize money to be awarded

What’s your big idea? Participate in the fourteenth annual Brookings Area Idea Competition and you could win cash to help take your product or business idea to the next level!

The 2021 contest, hosted by Brookings Economic Development Corporation (BEDC), encourages innovators, entrepreneurs, creative thinkers, and basically anyone with a good idea to participate by submitting a one-page description simply explaining what your idea is, who would benefit from it and where are you at in the process of developing your idea into a potential product or business. Finalists will be asked to give a five-minute pitch of their idea to a panel of judges.

“The Idea Competition continues to be one of our most popular programs,” said Jennifer Quail, BEDC Director of Entrepreneur Support. “In addition to having minimal requirements, this contest provides people with the opportunity to take their product or business ideas to the next level of development.”

Ideas can be submitted online at brookingsedc.com/idea. Entries will be placed in either the General Business or Science/Technology categories, and a total of $2,500 in prize money will be awarded with receipt of money subject to winners reaching business milestones.

The competition is free, and the deadline for idea submissions is Monday, March 22nd.  Finalists will pitch their ideas on Monday, March 29th, and winners will be announced at an awards ceremony following the pitches.

“Brookings is a very creative and innovative community,” said Quail. “We encourage residents including SDSU and high school students to participate in this competition and we are looking forward to seeing what the next big idea will be!” Questions about the contest may be directed to Quail at jennifer@brookingsedc.com or 605-697-8103.

The Idea Competition is just one of BEDC’s many events and programs that are part of the Brookings Start-Up Hub, supporting ideas, innovation and entrepreneurship in the Brookings region. These resources have helped establish Brookings as one of the top communities for entrepreneurs in the nation. For more information, visit startupbrookings.com.
