CollegeRank.net ranked South Dakota State University No. 11 in its listing of the 30 Best Bachelor’s in Geography.
It stated students could pursue this degree as a stand-alone major or partner it with geographic information sciences. In addition, students could earn certificates in geographic information sciences and unmanned aircraft systems.
“When compiling our rankings, our researchers base the overall score on the following: 40% on potential salary after graduation, 30% on individual program accreditation and 30% on overall affordability. South Dakota State University scored highly in all of these, but we also looked at SDSU’s long and impressive history, as well as the broad range of courses offered, which allows geography students to choose from dozens of interesting and relevant minors. We also took the Geospatial Sciences Center of Excellence into consideration, as we believe this is a great resource for geography students,” said Quinn Michaels, editor at CollegeRank.net. “To learn more about our methodology, please check it out at collegerank.net.”
Bob Watrel, who leads the Department of Geography and Geospatial Sciences, said SDSU graduates have served internships with the National Geospatial Agency, the city of Sioux Falls, USGS – EROS, various engineering firms, and various departments with the State of South Dakota and city planning offices.
“The geography major at South Dakota State is available both as a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts. The degree will prepare you for a variety of careers, including those as a geographic information systems analyst, a teacher, or an urban or tourism planner,” said Watrel.
