The Brookings Human Rights Commission is conducting a series of community listening sessions with various community groups.

The purpose of these sessions is to hear directly from Brookings community members to better understand local issues, needs and ideas for change. The information gathered will be used to inform the commission’s future goals and initiatives and shared with community stakeholders.

To date, the commission has held sessions with African American community members and Hispanic/Latinx community members. The next session in late January or early February will be with the LGBTQ+ community. Also, future sessions are planned with the Native American, Muslim, Hindu, Asian, and African communities in the Brookings area.

Those interested in participating in the listening sessions should contact the Brookings Human Resources office at 697-8668 or by email at humanrights@cityofbrookings.org.
