New online resource to support entrepreneurs
Brookings Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) is excited to announce the launch of a new online platform to support local entrepreneurs, the Mentor Match-up. This new tool will help facilitate the connections between experienced mentors and entrepreneurs in the Brookings community.
Research has shown that mentors can provide immense value. Whether you are a newly launched entrepreneur or a startup with a few years on the books, the expertise, perspective and skills that mentors bring can really foster and enhance business momentum.
“We all know that mentors are valuable, but one of the common challenges is getting connected to the right one,” said Jennifer Quail, BEDC’s Director of Entrepreneur Support. “That is one of the main drivers behind this online resource, simplify the process of finding a mentor while casting a broad net to find the best fit for the entrepreneur’s needs.”
Brookings is home to many talented individuals across a wide variety of industries and business types. BEDC believes that more fully utilizing this expertise will directly impact and strengthen the local business community through meaningful mentoring relationships, according to Quail. In addition to receiving business advise, mentees can grow professionally, develop leadership skills and expand their networks.
Because of the uncertainty of how COVID-19 will affect the local economy, entrepreneurs and startups have an immediate need for additional support. The online Mentor Match-up program can provide these resources quickly and safely through virtual connections.
Quail also hopes to see this tool develop into a long-standing resource for the community. “Of course, the value of a mentor is a bit more heightened now in our current situation, but we see the Mentor Match-up Program as a strategic tool to continually grow, support and strengthen our business community well into the future,” she said.
Mentors and mentees are encouraged to sign up for the new program by completing the simple form located at startupbrookings.com/mentor-program.
The Mentor Match-up program is just one of BEDC’s many events and programs that are part of the Brookings Start-up Hub, supporting ideas, innovation and entrepreneurship in the Brookings region.
