Al Heuton, executive director of Brookings Economic Development Corporation (BEDC), has announced the hiring of Sarah Hauge as the Director of Workforce Development for the organization.
“Sarah will begin her position with BEDC on January 6,” said Heuton. “One of her primary goals will be to build upon existing relationships with key partners and employers as we address workforce challenges and opportunities in our region.”
The unemployment rate for Brookings County is currently 3.4% and there are over 1,200 full and part-time job openings as businesses continue to grow and expand, according to Heuton. A survey completed by BEDC last summer shows local companies are planning for an additional 700 new positions over the next three years.
“Sarah’s leadership, creativity and problem-solving abilities will be instrumental in moving our workforce development program forward,” said Heuton. “She is passionate about Brookings and excited about collaborating with community partners and business leaders on the development and implementation of impactful workforce retention and recruitment programs.”
Hauge received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a specialty in Entrepreneurial Studies and Marketing from the University of Sioux Falls. Her prior professional experiences have allowed her to develop the essential skills needed for this position through her work with a variety of corporate, non-profit and entrepreneurial companies.
Partial funding for BEDC’s workforce development program is provided through Vision Brookings, a privately funded economic growth and development initiative.
