South Dakota State University has been ranked fourth among the 30 most affordable residential bachelor’s degrees in computer science for 2021 by Computer Science Degree Hub.

The 30 most affordable programs were selected and ranked in order of estimated program cost for out-of-state students.

“This recognition is a testament to our university’s land-grant mission. We take pride in providing a very high-quality undergraduate program in computer science to our constituents at an affordable cost,” said Siddharth Suryanarayanan, who leads SDSU’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

Students in SDSU’s Bachelor of Science in computer science program take hardware courses along with programming and software engineering courses. This helps them understand the interaction between hardware and software. The program ends with two capstone courses where each student is placed on a team to build a significant software project.

“I’m really pleased to see the computer science B.S. degree receive this recognition as we try to provide a great price point for our B.S. degrees to the entire contiguous region around South Dakota to increase the accessibility to computer science for workforce development,” said Bruce Berdanier, dean of the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering. “Also, we are constantly working to further enhance student access to our computer science degree through financial support for undergraduate student scholarships through our work with the SDSU Foundation. Finally, we would want everyone to know that the computer science bachelor’s degree is nationally accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET.”
