BROOKINGS – South Dakota State University’s Department of English will offer an online opportunity to earn a Master of Arts degree this upcoming fall semester.
Two courses will be offered each in the fall 2019 and spring 2020 semesters with other courses in development for the following academic year. SDSU’s online offering is currently the only one of its kind in South Dakota and presents an alternative for teachers, writing professionals and lifelong learners to earn a graduate degree in English.
“By earning a master’s degree in English, teachers can advance in rank and have new opportunities, such as teaching dual-credit classes or maybe a course at a community college or other college,” said Jason McEntee, who leads the SDSU Department of English. “We’ve had numerous inquiries about offering online graduate classes so we know there’s a demand.”
The online program looks to satisfy the demand for graduate degrees among those with limited time, access and interest in traditional face-to-face class settings. Depending on the course load, the degree could take two or three years to complete but scheduling will be flexible.
