Brookings Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) is excited to announce the Brookings Area Workforce Conference will be held on Thursday, August 17 at the Swiftel Center. As the lead entity for economic development in the region, workforce development is a significant priority for BEDC. This conference seeks to address issues facing the region’s employers and help them find solutions for continued growth and success.

Chris Rosenlund of Insperity will be the conference’s keynote speaker. Rosenlund is an expert in key workforce issues facing businesses today, including; employee engagement, generational gaps, company culture and employee performance. The agenda also includes sessions on best practices for onboarding, recruiting from universities and technical schools, developing an internship/apprenticeship program, mechanization and automation, and affordable housing.

In addition, South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation Secretary Marcia Hultman will provide an update on the state’s workforce development initiatives.

“Recruiting and retaining workers is both a challenge and an opportunity for the Brookings region,” said Stacy Aesoph, BEDC’s director of workforce development. “BEDC developed this conference to bring together community leaders, business managers and HR personnel to discuss and learn new ideas and collaborate on possible solutions.”

This event will feature five minute speeches inspiring attendees to think and do things differently.
